10 Restaurants You Need to Try in La Línea and Gibraltar
One of the underrated perks of living or visiting at the tip of the Iberian Peninsula is the food. You've got Andalucian seafood on one side, a British-Mediterranean fusion on the other, and some genuinely excellent restaurants that most visitors never find because they're not on TripAdvisor's first page.
These are our personal recommendations. Places we actually go to, places we book for clients, and places we'd take you if you asked us for one good meal on either side of the border.
Gibraltar Side
The Landings
Overlooking the Ocean Village marina, The Landings is probably Gibraltar's best restaurant for a proper dinner. Mediterranean menu with strong seafood, good wine list, and the kind of setting that works for both business and personal occasions. Book a terrace table at sunset if you can.
Charlie's Tavern
Unpretentious, consistent, and always busy. Charlie's does excellent pub-style food with a Mediterranean twist. Fish and chips that actually hold up, good burgers, and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere. The go-to for a casual weekday lunch.
Bianca's
The best Italian on the Rock. Fresh pasta, proper wood-fired pizza, and a wine selection that goes beyond the usual Chianti. Popular with the local professional crowd on Friday evenings. Reservations recommended for dinner.
The Clipper
A Gibraltar institution. Traditional British pub food done well in an old-town setting. Sunday roasts are excellent. It's the kind of place where half the clientele are regulars and the staff know everyone's order. Comfortable and reliable.
Sacarello's
The oldest coffee house in Gibraltar, dating back to 1820. Great for breakfast or a light lunch. The coffee is genuinely good, and the pastries are homemade. A proper local gem with character you won't find at a chain.
La Línea Side
La Maquinilla
Possibly the best tapas in La Linea. Tiny place, always packed, no frills. The croquetas are exceptional, the fried fish (pescaito frito) is perfectly done, and the atmosphere is pure Andalucia. Get there before 1:30 for lunch or you won't get a seat.
Chiringuito La Atunara
Right on the beach in the old fishing neighbourhood of La Atunara, with the Rock of Gibraltar as your backdrop. Grilled sardines, espetos (sardines on a stick over charcoal), fresh prawns, and cold beer. This is the experience that visitors remember. Lunch only, weather dependent, and worth the walk.
El Acueducto
More refined than the tapas bars, El Acueducto does proper Andalucian cooking with a modern touch. Good for a sit-down dinner with a wine list that actually represents the region well. The terrace on the plaza is particularly pleasant in the evenings.
Casa Pepe
A locals' bar where the tapas come free with your beer, old-school style. Nothing fancy about the decor, but the food is honest, generous, and cheap. Order a tinto de verano and let the kitchen decide what you're eating. You won't be disappointed.
Restaurante Meson Asador
Technically just outside La Linea in the Alcaidesa area, this is the spot for grilled meat. Argentine-style asado with excellent Iberian cuts, plus a solid seafood selection. Popular with the Sotogrande crowd for weekend lunches. Slightly more upmarket, good wine cellar.
